Metropet® Oral Suspension contains Metronidazole, a widely used antibiotic and antiprotozoal medication in veterinary medicine. It is highly effective in treating anaerobic bacterial infections and protozoal infections in dogs and cats, especially gastrointestinal disorders such as diarrhoea and giardiasis. The liquid formulation makes it easy to administer, particularly for small pets and young animals.

Composition

Each 5 ml contains:

  • Metronidazole Benzoate IP
    Equivalent to Metronidazole 200 mg

  • Flavoured suspension base q.s.

Indications / Uses

  • Gastrointestinal infections

  • Diarrhoea and dysentery

  • Giardiasis

  • Amoebiasis

  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

  • Anaerobic bacterial infections

  • Protozoal infections

  • Supportive treatment in mixed infections

  • Ear and systemic infections caused by anaerobic organisms

Dosage

Dogs:

  • 10–60 mg/kg body weight, once or twice daily

  • For Babesia and mixed haemoprotozoan infections:
    15 mg/kg body weight for 10 days

Cats:

  • 7.5–10 mg/kg body weight, twice daily

  • For Giardiasis:
    25 mg/kg body weight, twice daily for 5–7 days

Dosage and duration should be strictly followed as prescribed by a veterinarian.

Directions for Use

  • Shake well before use

  • Administer orally with food

  • Use a measuring syringe or cup for accurate dosing

  • Complete the full course of treatment

Side Effects

  • Vomiting

  • Excess salivation

  • Diarrhoea

  • Weakness

  • Tremors

  • Loss of coordination (ataxia)

  • Seizures (rare, usually due to overdose or prolonged use)

If any neurological symptoms occur, stop the medication and consult a veterinarian immediately.

Precautions

  • Do not exceed the recommended dose

  • Use with caution in pets with liver disease

  • Avoid long-term use without veterinary supervision
