Macrozee 250 mg Tablets contain Azithromycin, a macrolide antimicrobial widely used in veterinary medicine for the treatment of bacterial, protozoal, and certain intracellular infections. It is especially valuable in tick-borne diseases, respiratory infections, skin infections, and ocular conditions.

⚙️ Pharmacodynamics (Mode of Action)

Azithromycin binds to the P-site of the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms, inhibiting RNA-dependent protein synthesis, thereby preventing bacterial growth.

🦠 Susceptible Microorganisms

Azithromycin is active against:

  • Staphylococcus aureus

  • Streptococcus spp.

  • Haemophilus spp.

  • Bacteroides spp.

  • Borrelia burgdorferi

  • Mycoplasma spp.

  • Chlamydia spp.


🐾 Indications

Dogs & Cats

  • Babesia gibsoni infection (with Atovaquone)

  • Cytauxzoonosis

  • Toxoplasmosis

  • Skin & soft tissue infections

  • Respiratory tract infections

  • Urogenital infections

  • Otitis media

  • Keratitis & conjunctivitis

  • Cyclosporine-induced gingival hyperplasia

  • Adjunct therapy in canine viral papillomatosis


🧭 Dosage & Administration

General Dose:

  • 5–10 mg/kg body weight

  • Orally, once or twice daily

  • Duration: 1–5 days

Special Indications:

  • Babesia gibsoni

    • Azithromycin + Atovaquone

    • Azithromycin as prescribed

    • Atovaquone 10 mg/kg once daily for 10 days

  • Skin Infections

    • 10 mg/kg once daily

    • Duration: 3–4 weeks

🍽️ Directions for Use

  • Azithromycin may cause vomiting

  • Administer on an empty stomach, preferably in the morning

  • Feed the pet 1 hour after dosing

  • Avoid giving with food or antacids


⚠️ Side Effects

Most commonly gastrointestinal:

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhoea

  • Abdominal discomfort

⚠️ Rare but serious:

  • Cardiac arrhythmias

  • Ventricular tachycardia (in predisposed animals)

➡️ Discontinue and consult a veterinarian if severe reactions occur


🚫 Caution & Drug Interactions

  • Oral antacids reduce azithromycin absorption

  • Use cautiously in animals with known cardiac disease

  • Do not exceed prescribed dose or duration
